PREVENTING CLAIMS
We know that your personal belongings are important to you.  By choosing a well qualified moving company, you will reduce your risk of having to file a damage claim when your move is completed. 

BEFORE YOUR MOVE

  • Prepare major appliances and electronic equipment; do this yourself or contact a Delicate Moving Systems (DMS) representative in our office to assist you with this.  Do not wait until the day of your move to address this.
  • Determine if you will pay for packing services. If not, use appropriate materials and packing methods.  Request a packing tips brochure from a DMS representative, which details proper packing techniques and list chemical items that should never be part of a shipment.
  • Other decisions which will reduce the risk of damage include selecting a mover like DMS which maintains an A rating with the BBB, and is registered with TxDOT.
  • You may also purchase Replacement Value Protection (RVP) from DMS which provides protection from loss or damage to your property. DMS offers several deductible options when purchasing RVP.  To learn more about the coverage options that we offer, please review our “Liability For Loss And Damage” insert.

AFTER YOUR MOVE

  • When your move is completed, you will be asked by the crew leader to inspect all of your goods.  At that time, any damage that you choose to file a claim on should be reported to the crew leader.  Though you will report the damage to the crew leader, it is extremely important that you contact our offices and request a claim form; because our movers are not responsible for processing your claim.
  • Inspect the exterior condition of any and all boxes that we moved.  We strongly advise you to open any of your boxes with the crew leader if there is visible damage to the exterior of the box.  
  • Verify that all of your goods have been removed from the moving van(s).  You will be invited by the crew leader to inspect the van(s) to verify that none of your goods remain on the van(s).  By inspecting our van(s) after your move is completed, you will eliminate the possibility of having to call our office the following day to inquire about items that may have been left on the van(s).
  • If an inventory of your goods was prepared by one of our movers, then verify that all of the items were delivered and sign the inventory.
  • When unpacking, we suggest that each piece of packing paper be unfolded.  Small figurines can be accidentally discarded if appropriate measures are not taken while unpacking.
  • If damage occurs on your move, it is your responsibility to contact our offices and request a claim form.  A representative will walk you through the process and assist you in resolving your claim.
